About Me
As a child growing up in the Hampton, Virginia area; the beauty of the ocean and seaside backdrop inspired me to get out and capture the beauty of my surroundings. I would often go out and draw and paint landscapes and objects found near my home. At 9 years old I won the John T. Biggers Art Competition at one of the most prestigious historically black universities, Hampton University. This fundamentally changed me as an adolescent and inspired me to become the person I am today. Hampton University would also play a major part in my life later as I attend a summer camp there where we learned how to build computers.
This is where I would be introduced to the digital arts and learned the adobe creative suite of products. This would be another major milestone of my life and fundamentally change my trajectory in life. High school is when I discovered my passion for technology. I joined the robotics team at Phoebus High School and competed in a national robotics competition in Orlando, Florida. I would begin to learn about web design and coding building custom Myspace pages for friends and family. This is when I began to combine my love of Art and Technology. In college chose to major in Fine Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design. My years of experience already with the Adobe creative suite propelled me in the classroom. I began designing party flyers and promotional materials for friends and began making money from these projects. This is when I began to realize that I could do this as a full-time job. It's not often that we get to do what we love as a profession.
Along with my design classes, I also took web design classes and further enhanced my knowledge of HTML and CSS. After graduating from Norfolk State University, I would freelance building websites and graphic design. I would land my first real job with Dallas County Community College as a web content developer. I have been with the company for almost 10 years now and I am looking for my next adventure.
